Sports Event Gets Mummy & Daddy Together

Kolkata, Feb. 7. Yes it is cricket! Don Bosco Daddy Cricket brought together mummies and daddies of Don Bosco Park Circus students for a day-long event, 7 February. Started in 1992 by late Fr K.T. Thomas, then vice-principal, the event in its 18th year brought together some 200 sports lovers and their spouses. The event is uninterruptedly sponsored, for the last 18 years, by P.C. Chandra Group, the ace gold merchants of Bengal.

The daddies of current students of the school were divided into 8 teams by lot under the supervision of Fr. P. J. Mathew, the school bursar.
The day-long cricket tournament (ten overs a side) started off with inaugural words from Fr Mathew in the presence of Mr. Prosanto Chandra, director of P.C. Chandra Group and Mr. Tapan Das the coordinator of Daddy Cricket from its inception.
``More than mere competition, it is also a time to renew old contacts and forge new ones,`` said Fr Mathew complementing Mr Chandra for facilitating the event.
``I am sure the parents participating in these events would be able to inspire and instill in their children true spirit of healthy competition,`` he added.
``There is no other school in Kolkata which hosts an event like this for so many years,`` insists Mr. Tapan Das a prominent past pupil and initiator of several innovative school projects.
Every player received a games kit consisting of white T-shirt, cap and multicolor folder showcasing Daddy Cricket 2009.
While the tournament was played simultaneously on two fields, the mummies were kept busy with chance games like basketting the ball, ball targeting and housie.
Besides the PC Chandra rolling trophy for the winner and runner up, there were attractive prizes for the winning teams and outstanding players.
The event which started at 9 am continued up to sun down and concluded with dinner for all.
