Students Train for Corporate Social Responsibility

Kolkata, Feb. 6. Students of Don Bosco Technical Institute Park Circus had hands-on-training for Corporate Social Responsibility organizing a day`s events for children from neighbourhood slums, 6 February. Some 210 slum children and 20 instructors came into the lush green DB Park Circus campus for a day of fun and frolic. They were brought in under the banner of United Basti development association, an NGO working for uplift of slum children.

The day`s events were under the care of 139 DBTI students who belonged to all three courses of Electrical and Mechanical sections.
``This is an opportunity for you to have an exposure in corporate social responsibility... Even as students, this experience will go a long way in your professional life, making you sensitive toward the less fortunate of the society,`` reminded the Superintendent of Mechanical section Br. Theophilus Tirkey at the inaugural talk.
Each child had three free coupons for playing. The winners got valuable household and useful items as prizes. There were prizes for all children, even though they did not win at any of the chance games or sports events.
DBTI students also pitched in and pooled their monies to buy children`s gifts while DB Development office Kolkata chipped in the rest,`` explained DBTI Assistant principal Fr Jijo commenting on overwhelmingly generous student response.
The programme was entirely organized, coordinated and managed by the class leaders and monitors.
Besides the mid-day snacks the children were in store for an hour-long surprise entertainment programme.
