Recollection on Da Mihi Animas Precedes Kolkata PC 2010

Kolkata, Feb. 4. It is Chapter time for the Mother Province - Kolkata!  62 participants! At 5.00 pm, Fr. Jose Pampadiyil, the Moderator of the Chapter welcomed all the participants assembled in the Nitika Chapel and introduced Fr. Jose Vettath  from the Province of Guwahati who holds a doctorate degree in Salesian Spirituality, the animator of the recollection preceding the Provincial Chapter 2010.

In his inaugural talk Fr. Jose challenged the participants to bathe themselves in the spirit of Da mihi animas  returning afresh from Don Bosco as emphasized by GC 26. ``Today we need to break all barriers and be at the side of our young people who are crying out for our presence.``   ``Don Bosco made a definitive choice for the young waving aside all the lucrative offers of Marchionese Barolo and other such voices of the time.``  He concluded that the Chapter is a wonderful opportunity to renew this `thirst for the young` to renew our commitment to `Da mihi animas`.

The meditative reflection presented during the adoration highlighted the greatness and frailty of the Biblical figure David. He led the congregation to reflect on our experiences on similar grounds. ``Nevertheless our trust and confidence in the presence of the Lord becomes our saving factor`` commented the preacher. He also enumerated the trails and hardships that Don Rua underwent as he took up the reins of the young Congregation from the hands of Don Bosco. ``Suppression of Salesians in France and the false accusation of Salesians in matters of morality have been the greatest calvaries of Don Rua`` highlighted Fr. Jose who has done his doctoral thesis on Don Rua, at UPS.

During the goodnight talk Fr. Provincial welcomed all the participants.  ``This is the highest number of participants in the Provincial Chapter in the history of our Province as our presences have multiplied by leaps and bounds,`` commented Fr. Provincial. He also thanked all the confreres for making the necessary arrangements for the smooth running of the houses during the Chapter days. He also expressed his gratitude to the Confreres for the prayers and solidarity expressed to him at the passing away of his beloved father.  ``My father is lucky to have had so many praying for him with numerous Masses offered for him``.  He wished everyone a renewal experience in our commitment.

The Recollection will conclude on 4th February at mid-day.  The Chapter is scheduled to begin at 2.30 pm on the same day.
