Celebrating gratitude and continued growth - Provincial Installation, Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Feb. 6. With Fr Raminedi Balaraju, taking the oath as the fourth Provincial of the Salesian Province of Hyderabad another era of Salesian growth and progress commenced on February 5, 2010. `We need to constantly extract ourselves from the abundance of work at hand to focus on our true identity as disciples ,`` was the key message of Fr Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the main celebrant of the Holy Mass. The occasion was also a moment to thank Fr Maddhichetty Noel, the out-going Provincial.

Confreres, representatives from the neighbouring Provinces, parents and relatives of Fr Noel and Fr Balaraju, members of the Salesian family, Priests and religious of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, friends and well-wishers poured in to join the grand celebration held in the campus of the Don Bosco Shrine, Hyderabad on February 5, 2010. The Installation and handing over of charge was officially done during the Holy Mass, presided over by Fr Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the Regional councillor for South-Asia and was witnessed by nearly 850 people.

The felicitation programme, well coordinated by Fr Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar, witnessed confreres, invited dignitaries, members of the Salesian family and well-wishers express their sentiments of gratitude to Fr Noel and pledge their support and extend their congratulations to Fr Balaraju. Also present for this important occasion was Rev. Marampudi Joji, the Archbishop of Hyderabad. During the felicitation ceremony held after the Mass, he expressed his great joy in collaborating with the Salesians. He was all praise for Fr Noel, for his dynamic leadership not just of the Salesian Province but also of the CRI unit of the state. Promising Fr Balaraju, and the Salesians his whole-hearted support, the Archbishop encouraged the Salesians to continue spreading the charism of Don Bosco.

Fr Maria Arokiam, presenting to Fr Balaraju, a relic of Don Rua, repeated the same message of Don Bosco to Don Rua (when the latter took up office as the first Rector of Mirabello): Make yourself loved. Fr Maria also appreciated Fr Noel`s courage to initiate new and varied apostolate and his loving way of nurturing the Province, in spite of and through hardships. On behalf of the Province, Fr KM Sebastian, the former Novice Master thanked Fr Noel for his yeomen services and far-sightedness. He singled out Fr Noel`s efforts in equipping and greatly following up the local young Salesians as a great achievement of his term in office. Fr Jose Maliekal, the Rector of the Philosophate, in his words of welcome to Fr Balaraju, warmly exhorted him to build communities of Confreres in the Province as its chief animator. Br , the CRI national president too was felicitated on this occasion by Fr Noel.

Fr Noel, having expressed his gratitude to God and his confreres (especially his close collaborators), gladly assured the whole gathering of the Province`s bright future. Counting on the growth we have made in practically every sector, he recommended that each confrere see the hand of God at work in all our undertakings. Fr Balaraju, in his acceptance speech, thanked the confreres for entrusting him with their trust and confidence and assured that he would do his best in living up to the challenges of the responsibities.

The whole programme was coordinated by Fr Thottiyil Thomas, the Provincial Economer. The local Salesian communities too extended their utmost collaboration. So too did the Sisters of Charity (the next door neighbours to the Provincial House) and the Salesian Sisters community in Hyderabad. A festive meal was served to all the participants of the celebrations after the felicitations were done with.
