We, the advocates of the Human Rights Education (HRE) in the Andhra Pradesh region, are just back after enlisting 82 Heads of Schools for Adivasi Children to initiate HRE in their schools. This meant that they first attend an Orientation Programme themselves and then sent one teacher from the faculty for a Three Day Training on Human Rights Education. 96 Teachers attended the three day training programme in 3 batches. The presentation of the DBAI project to be supported by DMOS-COMIDE, Belgium was presented to the staff of development offices began with the staff of Bosco Seva Kendra (BSK) Development Office of the Salesian province of Hyderabad at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad on 20th July 2010. International, Jun 18 From Sociological point of view, Caste System and India can be spoken of as two sides of the same coin. It is deeply ingrained in the psyche of everything Indian, so much so it poses a formidable challenge even to the Constitution of India. Our political Independence has not been able to give us societal democracy which should be the true foundation of a nation. Neither the likes of Gandhi nor Ambedkar were able to `dismantle` the Brahminic superiority. Gandhi, perhaps, ``deified`` the underdogs by clubbing them under one godly term, Harijan (Hari-God, Jan-people: `people of God`). The Church in India too struggles against the evils of the system. The Gospel values have not been able to confront it effectively or even get round the `values` of casteism. In this context, the doctoral thesis on Rāmānuja`s Viśișţādvaita by Francis Vattukulathil defended at the Salesian University, Rome is another passionate argument in further `dismantling` the evils that the system perpetuates.  Read More »

CHANGING LIVES THROUGH EDUCATION
Guwahati, Jun 17 Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati, under the aegis of Don Bosco Youth Mission and Educational Services has been involved in `Care` - a unique project initiated in 2001 to provide educational support to the rural, poor and underprivileged children who were affected by the ethnic violence that occurred in 1996 and 1998 in the Western Assam districts of Kokrajhar, Bongaigoan and Chirang. This programme also caters to the children living in abandoned villages far from the reach of the existing Govt. schools. `Save children by bridging the educational gap` was the first felt need when DBYES began this project. Promotion of literary and value based quality education has been the prime concern of DBYES since its inception in 1991.
